Chandra Kiran in Jaipur - and Delhi

Ranjana and KC in Jaipur
Ashok Malhotra and Chandra Kiran in Jaipur

KC and wife Ranjana ( also an IITian) flew in from Toronto and we met in the dining hall of Hotel Marriot today afternoon. Over a couple of light beers and a sumptuous spread at this hotel famed as the finest in Jaipur, we exchanged news from USA to Chennai, Nainital and rest of India. KC filled me up on the doings of those in USA and described that Johri has been reciting wonderful stories to his mother and everyone else. Above are a couple of photos snapped earlier in the day.  We met after some seven years and the first impression was that we had aged a bit in body but not in heart.

Tomorrow KC is heading for Delhi and is hoping that Manchanda and/or Marwaha shall arrange a larger Meet with the Mech71 family many of whom live in Delhi.

UPDATE OCTOBER 12, 2014

A message just arrived that KC organized a larger get together in Delhi on the 12th evening. Following is one of the photos from this meet. More details would be posted as and when available

UPDATE NOVEMBER 7, 2014

After Delhi KC and wife made a hectic tour to Vaarnasi and then moved on to Chennai. Below is a photo of him and wife with GVRS and wife

Therefore friends from this account of the doings of our dear friend KC, it is quite clear that he is spending the evening of his life in style and comfort as every evening after a hard day of work should be. In another blog I had mentioned that if we divide a hundred year life in five parts of twenty years each, the fourth part 60 to 80 may be regarded as an evening, a time to relax and a time to rest before night comes and it is a time to sleep 80-100. However with increasing life spans due to modern medicines and vitamins perhaps the evening may come for some at 65 instead of 60, and that reminds me that in another some months I shall turn 65 too and it is time for me to return home from work, metaphorically speaking. Perhaps I have worked a bit too hard at blogs and books in the last few years. Wishing best of luck and a great time to all Mech71 friends in the evening of their lives, most especially Rajat who worked so hard during the work hours of his life that a need arose to intersperse the activity with a two year visit to an Ashram to unwind, arranged by the Almighty (as everything that happens is ultimately as per His wish as per mine and also Rajat's beliefs) and paid for by the generous public of USA. If in the process of working hard Rajat made some mistakes, that is not at all surprising. it is only the person who does little or nothing who makes no mistake. If the mistake was viewed far too seriously it was because of a double whammy - those who do exceedingly well in life face jealousy and those who belong to a different race face a disadvantage in a majority setting, that has been the human nature for thousands of years. If the face of the prosecuting majority in this case was a member of the minority, that too is not surprising, that often happens, the willingness of the front to play along for brownie points. Even president Obama may not have been spared some of that, leave alone Rajat.

One task shall remain for me in my evening as per my promise to dear friend Rajat, to welcome him to a green Himalayan retreat surrounded by lakes and streams of crystal clear waters and the song of birds in the lower Himalayas and help make some of the arrangements, if he should so desire.

Ramakrishnan Ramanathan, who is the most dashing?

My comment was primarily aimed at the protagonists at the Delhi meet :)By naming the dudest I do not wish to incur the wrath semi-dudes !

It should read wrath of the semi-dudes !

we are all aging Ramu, dudes or semi dudes, but good to feel young by your words. thanks

Looks like we have not aged at all and are once again up to old pranks from IIT days :) How about organizing an All Mech'71 meet soon - India/USA all together with wives in tow ! The Golden Jubilee is too far off ! 2015 maybe a good time to do this do. Hopefully Rajat would be out by end 2015 and his auto biography may be ready too for launch.

true Ramu, it is only the body that ages, the soul does not. The Jubilee is around July 1916 since we all first met in July 1966 and a proposal was floated earlier for celebrating one in a Himalayan town earlier ( since July may be a bit hot for around Delhi, the other possible location) to which some had supported. However, it is still too soon for that and perhaps more thought may be given to it after July 2015, a year in advance. Rajat is expected to out by then but there may be some restriction for one year after although I am not sure of that.

This one would be three day thing in a country resort most likely

Hopefully by then everyone would be mature enough not to be too loud at partying and bringing the mountain and the village on it down in a landslide :)

LOL! I can almost imagine the mech71 mass burial.

Oh ! I thought Golden Jubilee would be 2021 ie.50 years from year of passing out. But 2016 sounds fine. Yes the push for this can be given around mid-2015 !A Himalayan retreat with meditation, levitation and some swamins thrown in for entertainment sounds just the right recipe for celebration ! Count me in for sure !
