The Successful Mech71er - Sudheer Pimputkar
Dr. Sudheer Pimputkar |
Recently
a prominent Mech71er was in Delhi.
Every one wondered why he arrived in the worst, hottest and dustiest month of
the year. Nevertheless, because he is perceived as the most successful mech71er,
successful not because he attained the most fame or wealth but because he
braved the most serious of personal tragedies in his personal life, yet bounced
back to great happiness that is now enshrined in his face. After all, the
purpose of all those other things in life is for happiness (except perhaps for those into stuff like spiritual bliss or Nirvana). Therefore, a quick get together was
arranged as described by Sudheer himself:-
Mini Get-Together May 19, 2013: Delhi

"From my vantage point – an idiosyncratic view of the
evening…
First, well-deserved thanks are due to Co-Host Marwaha (VKM)
for organizing the show and to Co-Host Gulla for arranging the venue. Especially, because VKM was a little under
the weather but brushed it off in typical style. And thank you to all who came – it was a true
pleasure.
VK Gupta (VKG) and VKM were kind enough to pick me up (in
117F/47C heat) and waft me to the Def Col Club where Gulla and Mrs Gulla (Nutan)
and Manchi awaited. Mrs Gulla (wisely)
left as soon as the riff-raff arrived.
Appetizers were rapidly procured, whisky and water flowed (except for
this Pimp guy who wanted a Ketel One martini and was rebuked with an
appropriately blank stare and “Who tho nahi…”).
Then Shorty strolled into the room and the party was in full swing.
The details are hazy, but there was much good-natured
ribbing and gales of belly laughter.
Shorty and Manchi had several issues to debate. Shorty also had much to say about young
whippersnappers who did not pay their elders well-deserved respect. We never got to the bottom of that story but
it had something to do with an epiphany that Shorty had while climbing up a
ladder at work, 300 ft tall, to look into some chimney or some such. Gulla was his usual urbane self with an
anecdote here and a jibe there. VKG and Pimp argued about the finer points of
golf. VKG asserting it was the only
reason to get up in the morning, and Pimp pointing out that his dog refused to
chase balls thrown once too many times, so why should he chase a golf ball
after smacking it repeatedly? VKM was
quieter than usual but nobly kept up his end of the banter.
After the appetite was suitably honed, we repaired to the
dining room and more food. And amused
looks from neighboring tables when we dissolved in guffaws and other
manifestations of mirth.
On the way back, VKG confided that he was taking astrology
classes. We agreed that possibly there
are phenomena that are not amenable to the scientific method (hypothesis, test,
assessment) and study by a critical, rational mind would be an interesting
pastime.
Thus ended the evening - an evening of warmth and good
fellowship.
Priceless."
