Portrait of a Life

Image
A fellow mech71er, Rajive Johri, a retired President of a leading bank in USA today included this wonderful poem in an email with the following message, When an old woman died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in Saskatchewan, the nurses going through her meager possessions, found this poem. This little old woman, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this ’anonymous’ poem winging across the Internet.   Crabby Old Lady What do you see nurses?  What do you see? What are you thinking, when you're looking at me? A crabby old lady, not very wise, Uncertain of habit, with faraway eyes? Who dribbles her food, and makes no reply. When you say in a loud voice, I do wish you'd try who seems not to notice, the things that you do. And forever is losing, a sock or shoe? Who, resisting or not, lets you do as you will, with bathing and feeding, a long day to fill. Is that what you're thinking? Is that what you see? Th...

Chandra Kiran in Jaipur - and Delhi

Image
Ranjana and KC in Jaipur Ashok Malhotra and Chandra Kiran in Jaipur KC and wife Ranjana ( also an IITian) flew in from Toronto and we met in the dining hall of Hotel Marriot today afternoon. Over a couple of light beers and a sumptuous spread at this hotel famed as the finest in Jaipur, we exchanged news from USA to Chennai, Nainital and rest of India. KC filled me up on the doings of those in USA and described that Johri has been reciting wonderful stories to his mother and everyone else. Above are a couple of photos snapped earlier in the day.  We met after some seven years and the first impression was that we had aged a bit in body but not in heart. Tomorrow KC is heading for Delhi and is hoping that Manchanda and/or Marwaha shall arrange a larger Meet with the Mech71 family many of whom live in Delhi. UPDATE OCTOBER 12, 2014 A message just arrived that KC organized a larger get together in Delhi on the 12th evening. Following is one of the photos from ...

A Mech71 Tete a Tete in London

Image
T hree of the star Mech71ers met in London today – Bhav Datt, Gulshan Rai and Vijay Shenai and   had a great time...over 'Red Label'   for a socialist reminiscence...They chatted over several matters....it stretched to 4 hours....Basically celebrating life...having made it so far...thanking their stars that they do not live in countries with a medieval culture, as they looked with sorrow at the turmoil in some parts of the world. Despite the fact that they are in their mid sixties they are young at heart and in looks. Just goes to show love, truth and simplicity is the key to human happiness and bliss. Vijay Shenai and Ramakrishnan Ramanathan - With GVRS

Image
Vijay Shenai and Ramakrishnan Ramanathan Recently Kop a Mech71er, now a Prof in UK was on a visit to India. This is what Ramu had to say about the visit Kop was in Chennai on his Annual pilgrimage. Like last year we had a get together on 1 Feb'2014 at the IIT Alumni Club close to where GVRS lives. It was an evening of great fun, frolic, food & entertainment and lively discussions on myriad topics. Between the three of us we virtually polished off a large bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label. The club is a swanky place and we had an exclusive "Board Room" all to our ourselves. GVRS being a member here had ensured that we received exclusive privileges and VIP treatment (minus beacon lights of course). Murali who also lives in Chennai was invited but decided to stay away owing to prior commitments. Just goes to show, good friends are forever. GVRS is thrilled to play the host at this Chennai Reunion
